Caramel Cake
Ingredients:
1 cup vegetable oil
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp.salt
3 cups flour
1 cup of milk
1/2 tsp. baking powder
Cream oil and sugar. Add eggs 1 at a time, beating well
aftereach one. Add vanilla. Sift flour,baking powder and salt
together. Add to creamed mixture. Bake in greased and
floured pans at 350* for 30 minutes. Cool on wire rack.
Burnt Caramel Frosting:
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup boiling water
4 cups sugar
2 sticks margarine
1 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla
Burn 1/2 cup sugar in iron skillet; add 1/2 cup of boiling water
to make syrup. Add 4 cups of sugar, 2 sticks margarine and 1
cup of milk. Cook until soft ball stage. Remove from heat, add
1 tsp. of vanilla. Set pan in cold water and beat untill thick
enough to spread.
